Arturo Hasfield
Quality Engineer, Quality Assurance

What inspired you to pursue your career?

From a young age, I’ve always been fascinated by the world of aviation. The idea of defying gravity and exploring the skies ignited a passion within me that only grew stronger over time. As I delved deeper into the field of aerospace engineering during my academic years, I became captivated by the intricate design principles, cutting-edge technologies, and sheer ingenuity required to build aircraft that soar through the skies with precision and grace.

Moreover, the prospect of contributing to an industry that not only pushes the boundaries of human achievement but also plays a vital role in connecting people and cultures around the world was incredibly inspiring to me. I saw aerospace engineering to blend my love for science and innovation with a profound desire to make a meaningful impact on a global scale.

As I embarked on my career journey, joining De Havilland Aircraft of Canada felt like a natural fit. The company’s rich heritage, commitment to excellence, and unwavering dedication to advancing aviation made it an ideal environment for me to pursue my passion and contribute to the future of aerospace engineering. Every day, I’m inspired by the opportunity to play a part in shaping the future of aviation and ensuring that each aircraft we produce meets the highest standards of quality and safety.

Who or what inspires you in your work?

I’m inspired by the dedication and commitment of my colleagues and teammates. Working alongside individuals who share a passion for excellence and a relentless pursuit of quality is incredibly motivating. Their collective expertise, collaborative spirit, and unwavering dedication to upholding the highest standards serve as a constant reminder of the importance of our work and the impact it has on the safety and reliability of the aircraft we produce.

I’m also inspired by the broader mission of our company and the aviation industry. At DHC, we’re not just building airplanes; we’re connecting people, cultures, and economies around the world. Knowing that the work I do directly contributes to the safe and efficient fight against wildfires, fosters global connectivity, and drives economic growth, gives my work a deeper sense of purpose and meaning.

What is one thing that you wish people knew about your job?

One thing I wish people knew about my job as a quality engineer at DHC is the critical role I play in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of digital data used in the manufacturing process.

In my role, I focus on ensuring that the digital data produced by the Methods engineers align perfectly with the physical drawings of aircraft components. This meticulous attention to detail is essential because any discrepancies or errors in the digital data can have significant consequences downstream. By meticulously verifying the accuracy of this digital data, I help prevent costly errors and avoid the need to scrap parts during the manufacturing process, thereby saving both time and resources.

Where is your hometown, and what was it like growing up there?

My hometown is Puebla, a vibrant city nestled in the heart of Mexico known for its rich culture, stunning architecture, and, of course, its mouthwatering cuisine. Growing up in Puebla was a truly immersive experience, filled with colorful traditions, warm hospitality, and the irresistible aroma of freshly prepared local dishes.

One of the things I miss the most about Puebla is undoubtedly the food. From the iconic mole poblano to the flavorful chiles en nogada, Puebla’s culinary scene is a true delight for the senses. There’s nothing quite like indulging in authentic Mexican cuisine, made with love and passed down through generations, and it’s something I cherish dearly, even as I embrace new culinary adventures in Canada.

Moving to Sidney, British Columbia, has been a remarkable journey filled with contrasts and discoveries. The lush landscapes, breathtaking mountains, and the tranquil beauty of the ocean are a stark contrast to the bustling streets and historic landmarks of Puebla. While I miss the vibrant energy of my hometown, I’ve come to appreciate the serene natural beauty that surrounds me here in Canada.

Despite the differences, I’ve found a sense of belonging and community here in Canada, surrounded by welcoming neighbors and the opportunity to explore new horizons. While I may always have a fondness for my hometown of Puebla, I’m grateful for the experiences and adventures that living in Sidney has brought into my life.

Where is your favourite destination you’ve visited, and why?

One of my all-time favorite destinations that I’ve had the pleasure of visiting is Interlaken, Switzerland. Nestled in the heart of the Swiss Alps, Interlaken captivated me with its stunning natural beauty, majestic mountains, and picturesque landscapes that seemed straight out of a postcard.

What truly made Interlaken unforgettable for me was the awe-inspiring views from the mountaintops. Whether it was hiking through lush green valleys or taking a scenic cable car ride to the summit, every moment was filled with breathtaking vistas that left me speechless. The crisp mountain air, the pristine snow-capped peaks, and the tranquil lakes below created a sense of serenity and wonder that I’ll never forget.

Moreover, the experience of indulging in traditional Swiss cuisine, such as the delicious cheese fondue, added an extra layer of delight to my time in Interlaken. There’s something truly special about savoring local delicacies while surrounded by such breathtaking scenery, and it’s a memory that I hold dear to my heart.
