The Opportunity At DHC, we are always trying to think like a customer. And what is it that customers want? Typically, they’d like all of our aircraft to be even more reliable, with added performance features, at an even lower cost to purchase and maintain. Is that all? LOL.
As difficult as that assignment may be, our engineers are working on those kinds of solutions every day. As technology and materials science advance, we continually look at ways we can improve our aircraft. Recently, the emergency exit latches on our aircraft provided one such opportunity.
The Partnership Centennial College is one of the few Canadian post-secondary institutions offering aerospace and aviation programs. At their Downsview Campus, there are many bright young minds looking for problems to solve. DHC has partnered with Centennial to give engineering students a capstone project that provides them with real-world experience and gives us fresh perspective on our emergency exit latches.
You can read the whole article about their findings on Centennial’s website. For those of us without minds for engineering, here’s the TLDR: The students found viable ways to reduce weight, parts, and cost, and DHC will benefit from their research and development.
The Future This partnership is not only good for everyone involved in the short term, but it has great upside for the future as well. It gets the DHC name out there as a prospective employer for aerospace graduates. That’s how we’ll keep the fleet flying for years to come!
