As we navigate through this period of significant transformation at De Havilland Canada, it is important to acknowledge the incredible effort each of you has put into adapting and thriving amidst the changes. Your dedication and resilience have been nothing short of inspiring, and it is in this spirit that we are excited to introduce the first of our six DHC core values: GRIT.
Grit is more than just perseverance; it’s the relentless pursuit of our goals despite the obstacles we face. In times of change, grit is the force that keeps us moving forward, helping us to stay focused, motivated, and determined to overcome any challenge. It’s about maintaining passion and commitment over the long haul, even when the journey is tough.
At DHC, we are no strangers to change. The consolidation of all our companies into one centralized entity is a massive undertaking. This process involves rethinking our strategies, restructuring our teams, and adapting to new ways of working. It’s a challenging time, but it’s also an opportunity for us to grow stronger together.
Over the past few months, we’ve seen countless examples of grit within our organization. From teams working late into the night to meet tight deadlines, to individuals stepping out of their comfort zones to take on new roles. This unwavering determination has been the bedrock of our progress and is a testament to the grit that exists within each of you.
An excellent example of this is our IT department, who has been faced with the ongoing, daunting task of a continuing integration of our disparate systems. The team has tackled the challenge head-on and despite the complexity and pressure, has focused and worked tirelessly to ensure a smooth transition with each integration. Their grit has not only kept our operations running, but has also set a standard for what we can achieve when we are determined and united.
While some may naturally possess grit, it is also a quality that can be developed and strengthened over time. Here are a few ways we can cultivate grit in our daily work:
- Set Clear Goals: Understanding what we are working towards gives us a sense of purpose and direction. Break down larger tasks into manageable steps and celebrate each milestone achieved.
- Embrace Challenges: View obstacles as opportunities to learn and grow. Each challenge overcome is a step towards becoming more resilient and determined.
- Maintain Focus: Stay committed to your goals, even when distractions arise. Prioritize your tasks and keep your end objective in sight.
- Seek Support: Lean on your colleagues and build a support network. Sharing experiences and challenges can provide new perspectives and encouragement.
As we continue to drive forward with our restructuring and centralization efforts, let’s keep grit at the forefront of our actions. Remember that our collective strength lies in our ability to stay resilient and determined, no matter the challenges we face. Together, we can turn this period of change into a powerful catalyst for growth and success.
