Appreciation

As we continue to navigate this transformative journey at De Havilland Canada, we continue to be inspired by the grit, respect, and accountability each of you demonstrates. These core competencies have laid a solid foundation for our collective success. Today, we are excited to introduce the fourth of our six core competencies: Appreciation.

Appreciation is about recognizing and valuing the efforts and contributions of our team members. It goes beyond acknowledging successful outcomes; it’s about appreciating the intent, hard work, and dedication that each individual brings to their role. In times of significant change, such as our current restructuring and centralization, appreciation becomes even more critical. It helps to build a positive work environment, boost morale, and foster a culture of mutual respect and gratitude.

At DHC, we believe that everyone’s contributions, whether big or small, successful or not as expected, deserve recognition. Appreciating the effort, even if the outcome isn’t what we desired, is crucial. This perspective encourages continuous effort, innovation, and resilience.

We have seen many instances where appreciation has made a significant difference within our organization. From managers acknowledging their team’s hard work in meetings to colleagues expressing gratitude for each other’s support, these acts of appreciation create a positive and motivating work atmosphere.

Appreciation is a practice that can be cultivated daily. Here are a few ways we can foster appreciation in our workplace:

  1. Recognize Efforts Publicly: Celebrate the hard work and dedication of team members in meetings, newsletters, or through our internal communication platforms. Public recognition reinforces the value we place on effort and intent.
  2. Express Gratitude Regularly: Make it a habit to thank colleagues for their contributions, no matter how small. A simple thank you can go a long way in making someone feel valued. Remember, even if the outcome isn’t what was expected (or wanted), people stepped up, contributed, and provided their best efforts – a bit of appreciation will go a long way.
  3. Provide Constructive Feedback: When outcomes are not as expected, provide constructive feedback that acknowledges the effort and offers guidance for improvement. This helps in maintaining morale and encouraging continuous effort.
  4. Celebrate Milestones: Take time to celebrate both individual and team milestones. Recognizing progress, even in the midst of ongoing projects, helps maintain motivation and a sense of accomplishment.

As we move forward with our restructuring and centralization efforts, let’s make appreciation a guiding principle in all our interactions. By valuing and recognizing the efforts and contributions of each team member, we create a supportive and encouraging work environment that fosters continued growth and success.

Thank you for your ongoing dedication and hard work. Let’s uphold appreciation in everything we do, as we build a stronger, more unified De Havilland Canada.
