Great news, DHC! We have just achieved a major milestone in the Twin Otter 300-G program. Wednesday, January 22 marks the beginning of flight testing for the 300-G program. On that chilly afternoon, the MSN-949 (300-G Flight Test Vehicle) took to the skies. This is not a test flight of the first DHC Twin Otter 300-G, that comes later. This is a flight test vehicle that’s been equipped with all of the 300-G upgrades. The fully integrated Garmin avionics suite includes a digital display that provides flight instrumentation, engine and aircraft system information, flight plan data, as well as terrain information and weather radar. The aircraft took off at 2:36pm landed at 4:49pm, and it went off without a hitch; in fact, there were zero snags on this maiden flight. |

It takes a lot of people, and an enormous amount of hard work, to make a successful test flight happen: dedicated engineers, methods, supply chain and production personnel, aircraft maintenance engineers, pilots and flight operations, program management, and many more. As for what comes next, certification flight testing for the 300-G starts in February, and customer deliveries begin rolling off the production line in Calgary 1 just a few short months after that. The 300-G team are excited to launch the next generation of the Twin Otter into the sky. Great work, DHC! |
