Relaunch of The Academy (Aircraft Manufacturing and Assembly Training Program)

We are excited to announce the relaunch of our Aircraft Manufacturing and Assembly Training Program (The Academy) on August 14, 2023, in Victoria. This program has been meticulously designed to offer a comprehensive curriculum that equips students with the knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience required to excel in various sub-assembly and assembly work centers. Graduates of the eight week academy will have the necessary knowledge and skills to begin their progression as a Sheetmetal Mechanic / Assembler job classification.

Practical learning is at the heart of our program. With our newly designed training classroom, we have the increased ability and space to apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios. Students will learn specialized skills such as riveting, drilling and reaming, fastening, drawing interpretation, aircraft sealing, electrical grounding of aircraft structures, torqueing, installation of aircraft hardware and safety devices, and many more skills which will be critical for our operations. This hands-on experience will foster a deep understanding of the assembly process and build valuable skills.

Gerry Kelly, Vice-President Manufacturing said, “We’re really happy and excited to welcome our new employees at the De Havilland Canada Academy in Victoria. We already know they will be valuable additions to our company.”

We want to express our sincerest appreciation for all the individuals who helped support this project and the successful launch. For the redevelopment of this program, the training and development team assembled a group of experienced industry and curriculum development experts to project manage, design and re-launch the program. The talent acquisition team did an amazing job recruiting and hosting successful events to hire our students for the Academy. HR supported us in a seamless onboarding of our employees. IT worked tirelessly to deliver all our requests in a very short timeframe. The facilities team went above and beyond to ensure the training space was set up to perfection. Purchasing and marketing were incredible in expediting purchase requests and supplies. Our operations / production management team was very generous in how much subject matter expert support and guidance they have provided. HSE supported us by identifying/mitigating safety concerns.

This was a true demonstration of teamwork, comradery, and collaboration.

We look forward to continuing to achieve these milestones in the future!
