CGY3 – 515 Production Facility Celebrates One Full Year Injury-Free

We’re thrilled to announce that the CGY3 – 515 Production Facility has officially marked one full year since launch with zero accidents or injuries. A remarkable safety milestone and a great reflection of the entire team.

To celebrate this achievement, CGY3 hosted a well-deserved event today featuring a BBQ, music, and a dunk tank! – With none other than Spencer Levacque (Director – Health & Safety) and Victor Ocadiz (Director, Operations) stepping up and taking the plunge!

“This achievement is a testament to the strength of our safety culture, the diligence of every team member, and our shared commitment to doing things the right way — every time.
As we reflect on this achievement, we also recognize that it’s the personal commitments behind every safe action that truly sustains our culture. That’s why we’re proud to reinforce this mindset through the ‘Why I Work Safe’ campaign, which highlights how each team member practices the value of safety through their own lens.
Whether it’s for family, teamwork, pride in their craft, or simply doing what’s right — those personal ‘whys’ are what power our collective success.”

As CGY3 celebrates one year injury-free, we spoke with Victor Ocadiz, Director of Operations, about the key factors behind this success and what’s next for the facility’s safety journey.

What were the key factors that helped your team achieve a full year without any accidents?

The most important factor was that everyone got involved – right from the start. Whether it was setting up the facility or embracing our processes at DHC, the team was fully engaged. One example is our STAR process, the first step in identifying and flagging potential safety concerns. It’s been amazing to see people actively using the system and speaking up about what needs to be improved. Once someone has highlighted a conerrn using STAR this is then reviewed by the Health and Safety team and measures are put in place to navigate the issue safely.

What were some of the biggest production planning or safety challenges you faced this year, and how did you navigate them?

The biggest challenge was that we were launching a brand-new facility with brand-new processes. Instead of rushing to the finish line, we took things step by step. We focused on building each process carefully — using ‘baby steps’ to ensure we got it right before moving forward.

How do you keep safety top-of-mind for everyone, especially during high-stress and busy times?

It’s all about communication. Safety is the first topic every time we start something new. It’s always part of the conversation — not just a checklist item, but the foundation for how we work.

What role do employees play in identifying and managing safety risks?

Employees play a huge role. Through the STAR process, anyone can raise a concern, which is then reviewed by our Health & Safety team and, if needed, acted on immediately. We also have our Joint Safety Committee, which meets monthly to review and navigate ongoing safety risks. It’s a team effort, and their involvement is essential.

Looking ahead, are there any planning adjustments or improvements you’re aiming for to ensure the next year is just as successful?

We need to keep people engaged and part of our safety culture. That means continuing to talk about safety, celebrate the wins, and make sure everyone feels empowered to contribute. What we’ve built is working — now we just need to keep it going.
