After its return to the global stage at the Farnborough International Air Show, the Sherpa made a special stop in Belfast, Northern Ireland, returning to the city where the aircraft was originally manufactured more than 40 years ago.
The Sherpa was developed by Belfast-based Short Brothers in the early 1980s, building on the Short 330 and the company’s decades of aircraft manufacturing experience. Its unique design was created to meet the demands of rugged military transport operations, beginning a legacy that continues more than four decades later.
The visit in Belfast generated plenty of interest among local aviation enthusiasts, with spectators gathering along the fenceline at Belfast City Airport to watch the Sherpa depart.
Seeing an aircraft with such a unique history return to where its story began made for a memorable stop, and a great reminder of the lasting interest these aircraft continue to inspire around the world!
